About the Role

Très LA Bistro & Café is looking for an experienced and dependable Café Supervisor to lead the café's daily operations during weekday service. This is a hands-on supervisory role for someone who loves great coffee, leads by example, and takes pride in running an organized, welcoming café from opening through the end of the day.

Working closely with the General Manager, you will supervise the café team, oversee beverage quality, and manage inventory and ordering. You will also help build the café's training materials and support the General Manager in improving processes and documentation over time. At the same time, you will remain active on the floor, preparing beverages and serving guests alongside your team.

This is a non-tipped position with a competitive hourly rate and a consistent weekday schedule. We are looking for someone who wants more than their next café job. The role offers a clear path toward expanded café leadership and future promotion within Très LA Group for someone who demonstrates outstanding performance, initiative, and the ability to develop a strong team.

Responsibilities

Café Operations and Supervision

  • Supervise daily café operations and ensure an organized, efficient, and welcoming environment throughout the shift.
  • Lead opening procedures each morning so the café is fully stocked, set up, and ready for service.
  • Prepare espresso machines, grinders, drip coffee, cold brew, blenders, beverage stations, and grab-and-go displays before opening.
  • Confirm that Toast POS, KDS, and printers are working properly and promptly report any technical issues.
  • Assign stations and set daily priorities so service runs smoothly.
  • Monitor café presentation, product availability, equipment performance, and service flow during the day.
  • Ensure end-of-day cleaning, restocking, and closing tasks are completed and that clear handoff notes are left for the next shift.
  • Communicate staffing needs, maintenance issues, guest concerns, and operational challenges to the General Manager.

Team Supervision and Training

  • Set the standard for professionalism, hospitality, cleanliness, and teamwork.
  • Direct the work of café team members during the shift and reinforce Très LA standards.
  • Provide hands-on training and coaching on beverage preparation, equipment use, POS procedures, and guest service.
  • Help team members build confidence and consistency in espresso extraction, milk steaming, and café service.
  • Coordinate shift coverage and rest and meal breaks in partnership with management, consistent with company policy.
  • Share feedback on team performance, training needs, and staffing concerns with the General Manager.
  • Serve as the primary trainer for new café hires, using the training materials you develop and maintain.

Training Materials and Process Improvement

  • Draft and maintain café training materials, with direction and final approval from the General Manager, including onboarding guides, beverage build sheets, station guides, and skills checklists.
  • Help update standard operating procedures and checklists for opening, closing, cleaning, equipment care, and food safety.
  • Keep standardized recipe documentation for coffee, tea, smoothies, and other café offerings accurate and current.
  • Flag gaps in café processes and help the General Manager put improvements in place.
  • Review training materials and procedures regularly and update them when menu items, equipment, or standards change.
  • Use guest feedback, waste tracking, and service observations to recommend improvements to procedures and the guest experience.

Beverage Preparation and Guest Service

  • Prepare consistent, high-quality espresso drinks, coffee, tea, smoothies, and specialty beverages.
  • Take orders, process payments accurately, and help guests choose beverages and food items.
  • Serve pastries, sandwiches, salads, and other café offerings.
  • Maintain Très LA's beverage and service standards through attention to quality, presentation, and hospitality.
  • Resolve guest concerns professionally and involve the General Manager when additional support is needed.
  • Stay actively involved in service, especially during the morning rush and lunch periods.

Inventory and Ordering

  • Monitor inventory and maintain appropriate par levels for coffee, tea, dairy, milk alternatives, syrups, paper goods, and cleaning supplies.
  • Complete inventory counts and submit accurate weekly orders through the established ordering process.
  • Receive and organize deliveries, rotate products using FIFO, and monitor expiration dates.
  • Coordinate with kitchen leadership on pastry and grab-and-go availability.
  • Communicate shortages and unavailable items promptly.
  • Track waste and help control costs without compromising quality.

Cleanliness and Food Safety

  • Keep workstations, equipment, and guest-service areas clean, sanitized, and organized.
  • Ensure labeling, dating, temperature logs, and sanitizer checks are completed and documented.
  • Keep condiment stations, beverage supplies, and displays stocked and presentable.
  • Follow food safety procedures, cleaning schedules, and equipment-care standards.
  • Report safety concerns and equipment problems promptly.

Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of barista experience in a specialty coffee or high-volume café environment.
  • At least 1 year of experience as a café supervisor, lead barista, shift lead, or in a comparable leadership role.
  • Strong skills in espresso extraction, milk steaming, coffee preparation, and specialty beverages.
  • Experience with opening procedures, inventory, and ordering, along with creating or updating training guides, SOPs, checklists, or recipe documentation.
  • Comfortable using POS systems and Google Docs and Sheets. Toast experience is a plus.
  • Ability to supervise, train, and coach others clearly, patiently, and consistently.
  • Strong organization, communication, problem-solving, and follow-through.
  • Ability to stay calm, prioritize tasks, and maintain quality during busy service.
  • Reliable attendance and required availability Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Valid California Food Handler Card, or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire.
  • A genuine interest in growing into greater responsibility within the company.

Benefits

  • Eligible for medical, dental, and vision benefits, subject to plan terms and eligibility requirements.
  • Paid vacation and paid holidays in accordance with company policy, in addition to paid sick leave.
  • Paid parking at the Pacific Design Center.

Growth Opportunity

Outstanding performance in this role can lead to promotion into broader café or food and beverage leadership within Très LA Group. We value people who take initiative, develop their teammates, improve operations, and consistently deliver excellent guest experiences. This position is designed for someone who is ready to build toward greater responsibility.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

This role involves working in a fast-paced café and kitchen environment with frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and repetitive hand movements. Responsibilities may include lifting or moving supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, with assistance as needed, and handling hot beverages and food.

Essential duties may be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.

Additional Information

This is a non-tipped, hourly, non-exempt position. Overtime, meal periods, and rest breaks are provided in accordance with California law and company policy. Responsibilities may evolve based on café and business needs. This job description does not constitute an employment contract.
